So, the Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut DLC came out today, but was it to little to late?
I watched all the endings on youtube because I do not own the game, but I would have to say yes; to little, to late for most people that were upset. It is a nice gesture, and explained what they were going for but the people who absolutely hated the ending wont be satisfied because it wasn't a complete revamp. In fact they stayed true to there word, leaving it majorly the same. What the ending did do is add clarity for people who were on the fence about it. I thought they were really good, and that it's how the ending should have been all along. Still, in the time it took them to come out with this there have been many, many fan created endings and explanations that were way better.
Still, the ending in itself doesn't disprove the indoctrination theory, and after watching that video as well today I have to say that I was converted. Or at least came up with my own theory. I think that to explain the ending with any sensibility, parts of that theory are correct. I believe that all through the game Shepard was fighting indoctrination. I believe that the scene at the end, on the Citadel with the Illusive man and Anderson was an illusion, (or at least a metaphor for inner conflict.). Him having Andersons bullet wound showed that hurting Anderson hurt himself. Things like that. To explain that reasonably he was fighting indoctrination and it was all an illusion. After that when he he met the catalyst boy with the three choices the reapers 'chose' him to make a decision. They gave him that power because he had proven that he was good at making tough decisions. They gave him there weakness (the option to just destroy them), they gave him the power to use them to synthesize organics and synthetics and end conflict between the two, and they gave him the option to control them to help rebuild the galaxy. It could be said that they every individual that they indoctrinated could have been given that chance, just that none of them were strong enough to fight it and pass all the tests the reapers set out before them.
Still, it was great of Bioware to do anything, they didn't have to. At all. It's just sad that it came so late, after most people have stopped caring about the game. I think the ending, especially as is now with the extended cut is symbolic, and very worthy of Bioware. As I mentioned I think it just came a little to late.
